Air France flight AF842 to Fort-de-France turned around and landed at Lajes Airport, middle of Atlantic.
The Boeing 777-300ER departed Paris CDG Airport today Tuesday, June 3 2025 at 11:52 CEST according to tracking websites.
The aircraft with, registration F-GSQR, climbed to 34,000 feet then 38,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean.
After 3 hours and 30 minutes into the flight, the crew decided to turn around due to a medical emergency on board.
Pilots contacted ATC and the flight was vectored to Lajes Airport where it landed at 14:44 local time.
Lajes Airport is located in the parish of Lajes, on Terceira Island in the Azores, Portugal, a strategic location. It shares its runway and some facilities with Lajes Field, a military airbase operated by the Portuguese Air Force and used by NATO and the United States Air Force.
The airline scheduled a stopover of less than 1 hour but it will probably longer than that before resuming to Fort-de-France.
