After starting the fast Wi-Fi service past month, United Airlines has temporarily shut the usage of its Starlink broadband service in some aircraft.
United Airlines has temporarily suspended its Starlink satellite broadband service on a portion of its regional fleet due to technical challenges.
The airline had set an ambitious goal to equip its entire regional fleet of Embraer E175 jets with Starlink connectivity by the end of 2025.
However, United was forced to temporarily deactivated Starlink on nearly two dozen aircraft due to static interference between the satellite antennas and the communication antennas used by pilots to communicate with air traffic control.
In a statement, United described this type of radio interference as “fairly common with any new airline Wi-Fi provider.”
The airline is implementing technical fixes during scheduled maintenance of the affected planes and expects full service to resume soon.
