On Sunday, huge balloons fell on top of a GOL Boeing 737 and a supply truck at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo.

Operations were temporarily suspended at the site while the balloons were secured—one of the balloon parts tangled up in the wing of a GOL Boeing 737.

As seen in videos shared on the internet, the balloons carried the SBT logo.

In a statement, the manager of Guarulhos International Airport said:

“GRU Airport, the concessionaire that manages the São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, informs that this Sunday (20th), it identified the fall of a balloon in the patio at 8:40 am. acted to collect the material. The quick action to remove the balloon did not cause interference or generate risks in the operations, which were normalized at 8:49 am.”

The concessionaire also said it had accounted for 33 balloon occurrences in 2020 and another 44 in 2021. The release of balloons is a crime in Brazil.
