Air New Zealand has confirmed that the quarantine-free commercial travel to and from Australia is unlikely to resume until March next year. Air New Zealand CEO, Greg Foran confirmed that the “trans-Tasman flights” will not go ahead until March next year.
Chief executive Foran also said that New Zealand was lauded for eliminating COVID-19 back in June before it was hit with a second wave of the virus.
In an interview, Chief executive Greg Forlan said:
“I certainly do not believe we will see anything across the Tasman this calendar year. If it comes back quicker, we’re going to pop some champagne.”
“If it comes back quicker, we’re going to pop some champagne…We’re dealing with the biggest crisis that’s ever hit [the] industry.”
Air New Zealand chief executive also said that countries need to learn to live with the virus.
As the airline makes two-thirds of its earnings from international flying, it has been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
