Eurowings Europe employees are warning about joining the airline due to low wages and bad working conditions ‘below Ryanair level’.
An open letter by Eurowings employees said: “Lufthansa used to stand for reliability, fairness, social responsibility and justice, but this has changed with the foundation of Eurowings Europe”.
They say most people working for Eurowings Europe ‘would go to Ryanair if they had the possibility to do so’.
Eurowings Europe’s boss Robert Jahn commented: “This letter contains false claims and is highly damaging to business.”
Eurowings Europe is the low-cost carrier’s Austrian subsidiary. They are based in Vienna, Salzburg, Palma de Mallorca and soon Munich.
Lufthansa first wanted to hire many ex-Air Berlin employees for Eurowings Europe to cut costs, but the airline’s plan is now to hire the now-jobless Air Berlin employees ‘under German Eurowings working contracts’.
Air Berlin was Germany’s second largest airline and has ended flight operations on October 27th. Lufthansa Group will take over 81 Air Berlin Group aircraft and 3000 employees.
