The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are invesigating several cases where unathorised transmissions were broadcasted on Air Traffic Control frequencies.
There have been a total of 15 cases of these malicous transmissions at Melbourne, Avalon & Hobart in Australia.
“Airservices said at no time was safety jeopardised as a result of these calls, and Airservices is working closely with the airlines and the AFP.” the AFP said in a statement.
On October 27, Virgin Australian flight VA740 was 800 feet from landing at Melbourne Airport when the hoaxer at 16:19 called the aircraft to go-around and climb to 3,800 feet. Fortunatly, the aircraft landed safely at 16:33.
