Polish and Romanian Air Forces are on high alert following drone strikes targeting Ukrainian regions near the border.
On the evening of September 13, Poland placed its military aviation on heightened alert in response to the threat of drone strikes targeting Ukrainian regions near the Polish border, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
Polish and allied aircraft were deployed in the country’s airspace, while ground-based air defense and radar systems were elevated to their highest level of readiness.
“These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at ensuring airspace security and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threat zone,” the command said, stressing that forces were closely monitoring developments and ready to respond immediately.
The situation also affected civilian air travel. The Polish Air Transport Agency announced that Lublin Airport had suspended operations due to military activity in the region.
“Due to military operations, Lublin Airport and the controlled area around the airport are closed for air operations. We will keep you updated on the situation,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the Center for Governmental Security issued alerts to residents in Chełm, Krasnystaw, Łęczna, Świdnica, and Włodawa districts of Lublin Voivodeship, warning of the threat of an air attack. Citizens were advised to follow official instructions and await further updates.
In a parallel development, neighboring Romania also raised its alert level, deploying fighter jets after intercepting a drone that entered its airspace, according to local outlet Digi24.
