Ukraine’s air force says Russia launched 810 drones and 13 missiles in its overnight attack.
Kyiv, September 3, 2025 — Ukraine’s Air Force says Russia unleashed a massive overnight assault, launching 810 drones, four ballistic missiles, and nine cruise missiles in one of the largest attacks of the war to date.
Air defenses shot down the vast majority of the incoming weapons, but 54 drones and nine missiles struck targets across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, Odesa, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia, according to the Air Force. In total, 751 drones were intercepted. Officials reported multiple civilian casualties and significant infrastructure damage.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attack and urged allies to step up their support. “For the first time, more than 800 drones and missiles overnight. Civilians killed and injured, civilian infrastructure damaged … Russia escalates its terror against Ukraine,” he wrote on social media.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that Kyiv’s Cabinet building sustained damage during the strikes — marking the first time the government headquarters has been hit since the invasion began.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it had intercepted 69 Ukrainian drones overnight. According to Moscow, 21 were downed over Krasnodar Krai, 13 over the Voronezh region, and 10 over Belgorod, with the remainder destroyed across other regions.
The dueling reports underscore the intensity of the conflict’s latest escalation, as both sides trade drone and missile strikes deep into each other’s territory.
