A person has died at Milan Bergamo airport following accident on the taxiway.

SACBO announced that flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport were suspended at 10:20 am due to a problem that occurred on the taxiway.

The Airbus A319 (registration EC-MTF) was taxing to perform flight V73511 to Asturias when a 35 yo man was ingested into the left hand engine.

#BREAKING: Milan Airport has been shut down following horrifying reports that a person was ingested into an aircraft engine.

Emergency services are on site. All flights are currently suspended.

The causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities. The aircraft was pushed back from the gate, the accident happened when pilots started the engine to taxi to runway threshold.

By 11.50am local time, a total of nine flights had already been diverted – one to Bologna, two to Verona, and six rerouted to Milan Malpensa.

Flight operations resumed at 12:00pm (local time).

Italian media are reporting the victim was not an airport staff member or passenger. he reportedly made his way to the airport without a ticket, and then entered a restricted area leading to the runway and tarmac with the intention of committing suicide.
