JAIPUR, India — An Air India transatlantic flight bound for Delhi was forced to divert to Jaipur International Airport on Wednesday morning following an emergency transponder code signaling unlawful interference aboard the aircraft.
The incident involving Air India flight AI2030 marks the third time in less than two weeks that a commercial airliner has squawked 7500, the international transponder code designated for hijacking or unlawful interference, raising heightened concerns across the global aviation industry.
Air India AI2030 Diverted to Isolation Bay
On October 14, 2026, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (registration VT-TSE), operating from Frankfurt to Delhi, was en route when Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control reportedly received the Squawk 7500 signal.
Following standard emergency protocols, air traffic controllers diverted the aircraft to Jaipur International Airport, where it touched down safely at approximately 9:35 a.m. local time. All 306 passengers and crew members aboard were reported safe.
Immediately after touchdown, the aircraft was escorted to a remote isolation bay. Emergency crews and security personnel safely evacuated all passengers under supervision while security agencies conducted thorough precautionary sweeps of the Dreamliner.
While official investigations into AI2030 remain ongoing, preliminary reports suggest the signal may have been triggered inadvertently by the flight crew. However, aviation authorities have not yet conclusively established the cause of the alert.
A Troubling Pattern of Transponder Emergency Codes
Wednesday’s diversion follows two other severe in-flight incidents over the past fortnight involving the same emergency transponder code:
| Date | Airline & Flight | Route / Location | Event Details |
| Sept 30, 2026 | Flydubai (FZ1073) | To Tel Aviv | Pilots squawked 7500 during a violent altercation in the cockpit. |
| Oct 13, 2026 | Corendon Airlines (XR456) | Germany | Pilots squawked 7500, prompting German Air Force Eurofighters to intercept and escort the jet to the runway. |
| Oct 14, 2026 | Air India (AI2030) | Frankfurt to Delhi | Diverted to Jaipur following transponder signal; currently under investigation. |
Security Agencies on High Alert
A Squawk 7500 transmission automatically alerts ground traffic control and national defense networks to an active security threat or unauthorized intrusion aboard an aircraft.
With three distinct incidents occurring in such rapid succession across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, international aviation safety regulators and security agencies are expected to review recent protocol triggers and cockpit management standards to ensure passenger safety and prevent further operational disruptions.
