COLUMBUS, OH & NEW YORK, NY — Air travel proved unexpectedly eventful on Monday evening, October 26, 2026, as crew members aboard two separate domestic flights had to contend with canine-related disruptions mid-flight.
Loose Dog Onboard Allegiant Flight G4952
The first incident occurred shortly after Allegiant Air flight G4952 departed John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) at approximately 7:30 PM EDT, bound for Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) in Florida.
Shortly after the Airbus A320 (registration N197NV) took off from Runway 23R, flight crew alerted air traffic control and cabin staff that a dog was loose and roaming freely in the passenger cabin.

Flight attendants and passengers quickly managed the situation without further incident. The flight proceeded along its planned route without needing to divert, landing safely at Punta Gorda at 9:45 PM EDT after a two-hour flight.
Unruly Passenger and Dog Prompt Security at JFK
At nearly the same time on Monday evening, a separate incident unfolded aboard American Airlines flight AA1586, en route from Miami International Airport (MIA) to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York.
As the Airbus A321 (registration N925UY) approached New York, the flight crew radioed ahead to request that law enforcement and security personnel meet the aircraft at the gate upon arrival. According to reports, the crew was dealing with an unruly passenger accompanied by a dog during the flight.

Flight AA1586 landed smoothly at JFK at 9:15 PM EDT and taxied to Terminal 8, Gate 41, where security agents were standing by to address the situation.
Both airlines mandate that pets and service animals remain appropriately restrained or in approved carriers while in flight. It remains unclear whether either incident will result in fines or bans for the involved passengers.
