An engineer is in critical condition after falling around 20 feet from a British Airways aircraft at Heathrow Airport.
The incident occurred while the engineer was inspecting the auxiliary power unit located in the tail section of the aircraft. During the examination, he fell onto the concrete floor and was taken as a priority case to a major trauma centre.
The aircraft was parked inside a hangar at the British Airways Engineering Base at London Heathrow when the fall happened. Emergency services were called to Vanguard Way at 2:07 a.m. on Sunday (December 7), and the engineer was quickly transported to hospital.
A source said the accident has left colleagues shaken, noting that the engineer was considered highly experienced and trusted.
An investigation has reportedly been launched to determine how the fall occurred during what should have been a routine inspection.
