A Boeing 777 made a U-turn between Iceland and Scotland after pilots declared an emergency.
United Airlines flight UA949 departed London Heathrow at 13:42 GMT for a 10-hour flight to San Francisco. The 26-year-old plane departed from Gate B41 at Terminal 2.
The Boeing 777-200ER (registration N74007) was cruising at 34,000 feet between Iceland and Scotland when the crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700).
