A United Airlines flight bound for Detroit from Newark Liberty International Airport returned after a fire broke out in the cabin.
United Airlines flight, operated by Republic Airways, returned back to New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport after the crew reported a burning smell in the cabin.
The light UA3439 to Detroit departed Newark airport at 4:35 p.m. and climbed to 19,000 ft but turned back to Newark, returned at 5:21 p.m.
Passengers of the Embraer 170-100SE (registration N642RW) were evacuated via emergency slides. They were taken to the terminal on a bus. No injuries have been reported.
Arriving flights have been delayed between 1 hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes, while inbound flights are delayed at their origin station up to 1 hour, according to FlightAware.
Departures experienced approximately 40 minute delays after ground stop was lifted.
