Last July, an air freight package caught fire in a DHL logistics center in Leipzig before being loaded in a cargo plane.
According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany narrowly avoided a plane crash in July when an air freight package caught fire, possibly initiated by Russia .
It was a luck that the package caught fire on the ground in the DHL logistics center in Leipzig and not during the flight, said Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution President Thomas Haldenwang during a public questioning of the German secret services in the Bundestag.
The incident was actually more serious than previously known confirmed Haldenwang.
When the incendiary device ignited, the package was about to be loaded onto a cargo plane and the entire cargo container caught fire.
“We are observing aggressive behavior by the Russian intelligence services, in particular, espionage and sabotage by Russian actors have increased in Germany” explained Haldenwang.
According to Tagesspiegel information, the plane in question was delayed. If it had taken off on time, the package would have caught fire during the flight.
