A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 received major wing damage when it hit a light pole at Jacksonville International Airport (KJAX) in Florida on July 5, 2023.
The Boeing 737-800 with registration N8671D had landed on runway 08 as flight WN5122 from Houston-Hobby Airport when it hit the light pole.
Air traffic control was directing the aircraft’s crew to a holding pad awaiting gate clearance before the incident took place.
None of the 172 passengers and 6 crew members on board were injured.
“During that maneuvering, it appears the left wing-tip of the aircraft made contact with an off-pavement light pole. The aircraft was reviewed before being towed to a gate and now is removed from service for additional maintenance,” said an airlines spokesperson.
“We are working to take care of the 172 customers on board, along with our crew of six. Safety is our highest priority, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” stated Southwest’s statement.
The aircraft was removed from service and is being repaired.
