Delta flight #DL221 from Paris CDG to Salt Lake City diverted to Madrid after declaring an emergency over Scotland.
The Airbus A330-300 (reg. #N805NW) took off from Paris at 10.45 local time and declared an emergency 1h35 later after flying over Scotland.
The crew detected heating system issue on left engine and requested a diversion to Madrid-Barajas Airport, 2100 km (1300 miles) away.
The airline explained the reason for choosing Madrid over other airports was due freezing temperatures in Dublin or London.

Three hours after declaring the emergency, the flight landed safely in Madrid and was accompanied by emergency equipment to the remote stand.
The A333 remains grounded until further notice.
