BREAKING Air France #AF66 A380 just diverted to Goose Bay (YYR) due to disintegrated engine #4 cowling

Air France A380 (reg. F-HPJE) flight #AF66 from Paris CDG to Los Angeles LAX diverted to Goose Bay.

  • UPDATE 2223 UTC Air France is sending a Boeing 777-300 and a B737 to get the 497 passengers of Flight #AF066 to their destination. The two flights are scheduled to leave Goose Bay at 04:15 (LT).
  • UPDATE 2124 UTC Someone onboard is confirming us passengers are still on board the plane, almost 6h after landing.
  • UPDATE Customers taken care by Air France and rerouting solutions on going.

During the flight, engine #4 (right hand side) suffered issue causing the loss of the engine inlet cowling.

The Engine Alliance GP7000 is a turbofan jet engine manufactured by Engine Alliance. It is one of the powerplant options available for the Airbus A380, along with the Rolls-Royce Trent 900.

Air France A380 landed safely on runway 26 at 15:42 (UTC).

Air France statement

Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF 066 operated by A380 from Paris-CDG to Los Angeles decided to divert to Goose Bay airport (Canada) following serious damage to one of its four engines.

The aircraft landed safely at 15:42 (GMT), and the regularly trained pilots and cabin crew handled this serious incident perfectly. The passengers are currently being assisted by teams dispatched to the location.

Air France is currently working to re-route the passengers to Los Angeles via one of its connecting platforms in North America.
