The Airbus A320 (reg. N453UA) flew from Orlando and landed at Newark.
The incident happent while the aircraft was parked. The FAA said no passengers were on board.
The right main gear of the aircraft suffered important structure damage.
The A320 Airbus was removed to be repaired and to determine what caused the axle to break, the spokeswoman said.
