Emergency services including police, fire and ambulance services were scrambled to the runway to meet the aircraft on arrival.
The Eastern Airways Jetstream 41, with around 30 passengers on board, had departed from the airport bound for Newcastle less than half an hour earlier.
Crews hosed down one of the engines of the plane on the runway while the passengers were evacuated to the terminal.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three appliances, carrying around 15 firefighters, were sent from city stations at 4.40pm to assist the airport’s own fire service.
