A 23 year-old flight instructor has been killed in a small plane crash.
Viktoria Theresie Izabelle Ljungman was just 23 when a student pilot she was teaching pulled the plane too steeply at an angle and stalled the engine, causing the aircraft to fall from a height of about 100 feet on Thursday (October 6).
The plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, crashed around 3pm in a ditch at Newport News-Williamsburg Airport.
It was carrying Ljungman, student pilot Oluwagbohunmi Ayomide Oyebode, 18, and another unidentified 18-year-old.
Oyebode and the unidentified passenger survived the crash and were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, and Oyebode was later transferred to VCU Medical Center.
Ljungman, originally from Sweden, had dreamt of becoming a commercial pilot and earned her licence in March 2021 while studying at Hampton University in Virginia before gaining her flight instructor licence earlier this year.
