Two Southwest Airlines Boeing 737s collided while taxiing at Chicago Midway International Airport on Friday afternoon.
The Boeing 737-800, with registration N8686A, was taxiing out for departure when its wing struck the tail of another 737-800, bearing registration N289CT. This 737 was arriving from Washington, whereas the former one was heading out for Birmingham.
The incident took place at taxiway “Yankee”. Passengers on both flights were disembarked after the collision, and the FAA is investigating the incident. No one was injured in the incident.

In a statement, a Southwest Airline spokesperson said:
“At approximately 12:40 pm CDT on Friday, May 21, the aircraft operating Southwest Flight 654 preparing to depart Chicago Midway to Birmingham was pushing back from a gate when its wingtip contacted the horizontal stabilizer of another Southwest aircraft sitting stationary at a neighbouring gate.”
