Detroit Metropolitan Airport reopened Wednesday morning after being shut down for 14 hours as icy weather moved through the area.
The airport in Romulus closed around 8 p.m. Tuesday and reopened around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
“Detroit Metropolitan Airport is now open,” airport officials said in a statement. “Weather conditions have improved enough to allow the deicing fluid to be effective.”
“At this time, one runway, the surrounding taxiways and de-ice pads are open,” the statement said. “Throughout the morning, maintenance crews will continue working hard to reopen the remaining runways and taxiways. Customers are still encouraged to check with their airline regarding flight status and before heading to the airport.”
