Gloucestershire Police stated that the force received a call at approximately 00:45 BST on Sunday morning regarding “three suspicious vehicles” traveling towards the RAF base.Armed officers responded and detained five men in the adjacent village of Whelford, declaring a major incident.Counter-terrorism officers initially arrested the men on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act before re-arresting them on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
The British Army’s specialist explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit was deployed to inspect three suspicious vehicles, including trucks and vans, within an established 400-meter cordon.Authorities evacuated roughly 85 households as a precautionary measure, rehousing affected residents at a nearby leisure center.Police confirmed the situation remains contained.
