MÁLAGA, Spain — Emergency services at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) were alerted Sunday morning following a medical tragedy aboard Norwegian flight DY1800, en route from Oslo Gardermoen (OSL).

A approximately 70-year-old Norwegian woman traveling with her husband passed away while the Boeing 737-800 (registration LN-DYX) was in transit over Atlantic.

According to transmissions sent from the flight deck to operations controllers, the crew initially reported a severe medical emergency onboard. The message noted that three medical doctors who were traveling as passengers immediately rushed to assist the woman as her condition deteriorated.

Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts by the medical professionals onboard, the passenger passed away. The pilots confirmed the loss of life.

The crew temporarily placed the woman’s body in the aircraft’s rear galley before arranging to secure her in a row of seats at the very back of the aircraft for the remainder of the journey.

The flight, which departed Oslo at 6:40 a.m., maintained its course toward southern Spain and is scheduled to touch down in Málaga at around 10:35 a.m. local time.

Ground medical crews, emergency personnel, and local police in Málaga were notified to meet the aircraft upon arrival at the gate to assist the grieving husband, handle the official declaration of death, and coordinate with local authorities.
