Images of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum flying in the economy cabin of a commercial long-haul flight have gone viral.
MEXICO CITY — A video captured by a fellow traveler on an Aeromexico Boeing 787 Dreamliner shows the President seated in a standard window seat in the economy section. The flight was a direct long-haul journey from Barcelona to Mexico City.
Passengers onboard reported a surreal atmosphere as they realized the head of state was sitting in a full row alongside regular travelers. According to witnesses, Sheinbaum appeared relaxed, interacting casually with those nearby and even posing for a few quick photos during the flight.
The return flight from Spain was not an isolated incident. Her outbound journey to Europe was equally modest on Air Canada flight via a connection.
By opting for a commercial connection in coach rather than a direct government jet or even a Business Class seat, Sheinbaum is doubling down on the precedent set by her predecessor, focusing on the optics of shared sacrifice.
