BORDEAUX, France – A Ryanair flight bound for North Africa was forced to make a rapid descent and unscheduled landing in southwestern France this morning following a medical emergency on board.

Incident Overview

Ryanair flight FR5948, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 (registration 9H-VUV), was en route from Brussels South Charleroi Airport to Saniat Rmel Airport in Tétouan, Morocco.

While cruising at 37,000 feet off the French coast, the flight crew declared a formal emergency. The aircraft immediately began a rapid descent to coordinate a priority landing at Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport (BOD).

Priority Landing and Medical Response

The aircraft touched down safely on Runway 05 in Bordeaux. Following touchdown, the jet was taxied to a remote stand of the airport to allow emergency medical services to board the aircraft and attend to the passenger in distress.

By utilizing a remote stand, the crew ensured that medical teams had immediate access while minimizing disruption to other scheduled traffic at the terminal.

Journey Resumes

Following the medical evacuation and necessary paperwork, the flight was cleared to continue its journey to Morocco.

The aircraft departed Bordeaux at 10:10 AM CEST and is currently back in the air, tracking toward Saniat Rmel Airport. Passengers are expected to arrive in Tétouan with a delay of approximately two hours. Ryanair has not released further details regarding the condition of the passenger involved.
