An A380 flying from Dubai to São Paulo was forced to divert to Rio De Janeiro due to adverse weather.

The Emirates flight EK261 departed Dubai Thursday, May 22 2025 for a 15-hour flight to São Paulo, Brazil.

While on final approach to GRU Airport, the A380 aircraft, with registration A6-EVP, climbed back to 25,000 feet.

At this moment, the airport was experiencing a severe thunderstorm resulting to a visibility under 2km and ceiling at only 800 feet.

The Airbus A380-800 then diverted to GIG Airport few minutes later. The flight EK261 resumed from RIOgaleão International Airport to Guarulhos–Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport in 40 minutes.
