Emirates flight from Dubai to New York JFK diverted to Iceland, forcing passengers to walk on ice in middle of the night.

The flight EK201 departed Dubai at 09:01 GST Thursday, January 23 2025 to New York JFK Airport.

But about 9 hours into the flight, the A380 (registration A6-EEQ) diverted to Keflavik, after a possible medical emergency on board.

As the plane landed in Iceland, the crew went out of hours forcing passengers to disembark and be stranded.

Walking to supermarket at 2 am to get some snacks. I unfortunately have a 90 year old grandma with me without her cane or walker.

Emirates I get this is out of your hands but the lack of communication sucks. We still don’t know when our flight is departing. pic.twitter.com/kscfsWcVKd

Several passengers complained about the lack of information and the fact they had to look for snack in middle of the night, walking on ice.

The airline is planning to leave the passengers in Iceland for more than 37 hours.

Not to mention, we’re traveling in the middle of the night trying to check into a hotel with approximately 75 other displaced guests. Walking two blocks in snow and icy conditions to get to our hotel. Many of us inadequately dressed for the weather. What an unsafe situation pic.twitter.com/mPLzETNfBr

The rescue flight is scheduled to depart at 04:00 am on Saturday, estimated to land at 04:37 at New York JFK.
