PHILADELPHIA — An American Airlines flight bound for Toronto was forced to reject its takeoff at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday afternoon after crew members spotted debris on the runway.

Flight AA5522 was on its roll along Runway 09L on Saturday, October 10, when the pilots abruptly safely halted the departure. The flight crew immediately alerted air traffic control to the presence of debris on the tarmac.

Air traffic controllers safely guided the aircraft off Runway 09L via an adjacent taxiway, allowing the plane to loop back toward the threshold while airport ground crews cleared the area.

Despite the unexpected interruption, the delay was minimal. Flight AA5522 resumed its departure approximately 15 minutes later and completed its journey to Toronto Pearson International Airport without further incident, arriving just over an hour later.

No injuries were reported, and normal runway operations at Philadelphia International Airport resumed shortly after the area was inspected and cleared.
