United Airlines flight UA885 departed Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport at 11:35 CET for a 9-hour flight to Washington IAD.
While cruising at 30,000 feet over Normandy, the crew decided to turn around towards Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The Boeing 767-400ER (registration N66056) is expected to land in Paris almost 3 hours after departure.
