A Boeing 777-200 to New Delhi turned around after 8 hours into the flight to finally divert to London.
Air Canada flight AC42 departed Toronto Pearson International Airport Thursday, September 18 2025 at 8:07 EDT for a 14-hour flight to New Delhi, India.
After 8 hours into the flight, the Boeing 777-200LR (registration C-FNNH) was cruising at 33,000 feet over the Black Sea when the crew decided to turn around.
The aircraft still flew during almost four more hours to reach London Heathrow Airport due to an unexpected maintenance issue. It dumped fuel at FL320 before starting approach. It landed on runway 27L, 12 hours and 38 minutes after departure then reached gate B36 where passengers disembarked.
The airline cancelled the flight and stated the problem could be electrics or hydraulics that need to be fixed for safety reasons and will take longer than a reasonable flight delay to complete.
