A flight from New York JFK to Rome turned around while starting to cross Atlantic and diverted to Canada.
ITA Airways flight AZ609 departed New York JFK Airport Saturday, July 5 2025 at 16:00 EDT to Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport.
The Airbus A350-900 (registration EI-IFA) was cruising at 39,000 feet and starting to cross Atlantic ocean when the crew decided to turn around due to a medical emergency.
More than 3 hours into the flight, the A350 aircraft diverted to St. John’s. It landed on runway 28 then was parked on a remote stand where emergency vehicles met the plane.
The flight resumed less than 3 hours later from YYT then arrived in Rome by 10:15 CEST.
