RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — A Houthi missile strike struck Terminal 3 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh today, triggering widespread disruptions, flight cancellations, and a major emergency response across the capital.

Dozens of ambulances rushed to the scene shortly after the impact to attend to casualties and assist in the evacuation. Authorities immediately ordered the evacuation of affected airport sections, while incoming flights were diverted and dozens of scheduled departures were canceled.

Loud Explosions Heard Across Capital

Residents in Riyadh reported hearing multiple loud blasts echoing across the city during the attack.

“I heard at least two massive explosions that shook the area,” a Riyadh resident told the Associated Press shortly after the strike.

Civil aviation authorities and emergency teams moved swiftly to secure the facility, setting up safety perimeters around Terminal 3 while assessing structural damage.

Travel Advisory Issued

In the wake of the strike, airport officials issued an urgent advisory directing all scheduled passengers not to head to the airport without prior verification. Travel displays and airline portals showed widespread cancellations and indefinite delays throughout the day.

Passengers are advised to:

  • Check flight status: Verify departure details directly with airlines before attempting travel.
  • Avoid non-essential trips to the airport: Refrain from traveling to King Khalid International Airport unless confirmed by airline representatives.
  • Monitor official alerts: Follow updates from Saudi civil aviation authorities for terminal reopenings and operations.

Emergency crews and security personnel remain on-site at King Khalid International Airport as inquiries and security operations continue.

UPDATE
Preliminary reports from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport indicate at least 45 people have been injured following a missile strike on the facility. Medical sources say five of the wounded are in intensive care, with dozens of others treated for injuries.
