Flight operations were halted at Charleroi Airport on Tuesday afternoon following a bomb threat on a Ryanair flight.
Around 11:00 Tuesday, a bomb threat was reported on board a Ryanair plane from Portugal that had arrived at Charleroi Airport shortly before.
A security perimeter of half a kilometer has been established around the aircraft, forcing the closure of the runway and the suspension of operations. However the terminal was not evacuated as it lied outside the security zone.
Police carried out security screenings and determined that air traffic could resume. At least 11 flights diverted to nearby airports, including Brussels Zaventem, Lille and Liege.
“Since 13:45, the runway has reopened and operations have resumed,” the airport said in a post on Facebook.
