A British Airways flight to San Jose returned to London Gatwick more than 9 hours later following an issue.
British Airways flight #BA2237 departed London Gatwick in the morning of Tuesday, October 29 2024 for a 11-hour flight to San Jose in Costa Rica.
The Boeing 777-200ER (registration G-YMMD) took off form runway 26L at Gatwick and climbed to the cruise altitude of 36,000 ft.
But almost 5 hours later, while in middle of the Atlantic, the crew decided to turn around after contacting the airline about a technical issue on board.
The 24-year-old aircraft was suffering a water leak which could not be solved midair. The water system stopped to work forcing the pilots to stop the mission.
The plane flew all the way back to UK and landed at London Gatwick Airport 9 hours and 28 minutes after depatrture.
The faulty aircraft is already back in service, currently flying as #BA2203 to Cancun.
