Lufthansa flight from San Diego to Munich diverted to Nuremberg following mechanical issue.
Lufthansa flight #LH647 departed San Diego, CA, USA by end of afternoon on Tuesday, August 20 2024 for a 11-hour flight to Munich, Germany.
The Airbus A350-900 (registration D-AIXA) climbed to 41,000 ft and cruised at that altitude the whole flight until starting approach to Munich over Cologne.
According to The Aviation Herald, the aircraft suffered mechanical issue right after takeoff from runway 27 when the nose gear took an unusually long time to retract.
The crew decided to continue to Munich but contacted ATC and finally diverted to Nuremberg where it landed at 13:48 CEST on Wednesday, August 21 2024.
Decision to divert to NUE and using a shorter runway as well as not having any maintenance here was due to heavy rain and therefore a quite wet 4000m runway at Munich.
