Lufthansa A350 to Tokyo Haneda returned to Munich after more than 8 hours into the flight.
Friday, August 16 2024, the Lufthansa flight #LH714 departed Munich Airport, Germany for a 12-hour flight to Tokyo Haneda Airport.
The Airbus A350-941 (registration D-AIXG) took off from runway 08R one hour late on scheduled time and climbed to 37,000 ft.
But while over the Caspian Sea, in Kazakhstan’s airspace, the aircraft turned around and climbed to 38,000 ft.
In decision with the airline, the crew decided to return all the way back to Munich.
It’s not clear yet if that decision was related to typhoon Ampil but it was more probably due to a technical issue with the aircraft as flight LH716 from Frankfurt to Tokyo was cancelled due to the weather conditions.
The A350 landed back on runway 08R, 8 hours and and 22 minutes later.
The 6 year-old aircraft landed under the escort of multiple emergency services and remained on the runway for a while.
