The Airbus A380 (registration G-XLEC) left terminal 5 at 14:30 BST to line up on runway 27R. While accelerating, the aircraft reached 50 kts before pilots rejected the takeoff due to a technical issue.
During the procedure, due to heavy weight, one of the tires exploded, a classic consequence of the rejected takeoffs.
The aircraft then vacated the runway and stayed for almost 30 minutes while the pilots tried to manage the issue.
Then it finally resumed taxi to return to the terminal 5. British Airways is confirming the flight is delayed.
New departure scheduled for 19:15 BST.
