Singapore Airlines flight #SQ232 to Singapore returned to Sydney.
Today Sunday, April 7 2024, the flight #SQ232 departed Sydney at 11:20 AEST but stopped its climb shortly after departure.
The flight was operated by an A380 (registration 9V-SKM) which is 13 years old. The aircraft entered a hold at 10,000 ft over the ocean, likely to reduce fuel weight in preparation for return to Sydney.
Max landing weight is about 390 t. So with about fuel load of120 t, the crew probably had to dump a bit of fuel for a safe landing.
Aircraft can still land above max landing weight, but it’s not desirable. It’ll slow down turnaround, requiring inspections and time for brake cooling.
The flight landed back in Sydney on runway 34L 1 hour and 14 minutes later.
The same aircraft is now back airborne. It took off at 16:50 AEST and is estimated to land by 22:00 SGT in Singapore.
The Airbus A380 suffered a technical issue. It was carrying 474 passengers and 27 crew members.
