Russian Aeroflot is facing problems replacing worn-out brakes on aircraft due to sanctions.

A fleet of five Boeing B777, two Airbus A321, one A330 and one A320 aircraft will now land with reverse thrust only, with brakes deactivated.

The company’s minimum serviceable equipment list (MEL) says not to fly with such a failure for more than ten days.

Aeroflot has warned pilots about the risk of rolling out such airliners off the runway.

Latest aviation safety bulletin reads :
“The aircraft will tend to turn to the side where the brakes are not deactivated. Pay attention to this fact, especially when landing on a wet runway with a crosswind!!! There are restrictions on the width of the runway. The risk of overrunning the runway!!!”

In response to sanctions, the Kremlin countered with its own sanctions. It even went as far as to seize some 500 leased western-built airliners — which are worth an estimated $10 billion, according to Reuters.
