The aircraft was forced to return due to a burning smell in the cabin.
The Airbus A380 (reg. G-XLEH) dumped fuel at 10,000 ft and landed back in Johannesburg runway 21R.
The aircraft was met by fire trucks and inspected on the taxiway before slowly taxiing back to the gate followed by emergency vehicles.
The flight was supposed to last 10h30 and to be the very first flight to land at London Heathrow at 5:30 BST.
