The CEO of Ryanair says traffic at Dublin airport could exceed pre pandemic levels this summer.
The airline today announced its largest ever summer scheme, with flights to 120 destinations across Europe.
It comes as the government is expected to ease restrictions as the Omicron wave passes.
“We’ll be this summer 10% ahead of pre-pandemic, with additional aircraft going into Dublin and more routes going in,” said Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson. “With variants like Omicron there’s no point closing borders – there’s too much movement. “It’s something we’re going to have to deal with on a pan-national level and the idea that we can solve these problems ourselves is completely misguided.”
He also said that unvaccinated passengers shouldn’t be allowed on planes. He said, “generally the future for air travel should be – have a vaccination and a booster. “And that protects everybody who is on the aircraft – why should the minority get away with it. Unless they’ve good reason on medical grounds.”
While he says the airline won’t make the jab mandatory for flying, he thinks governments should. “The answer is – everybody to get vaccinated and boosted. It’s not just about holidays, it’s about business, visiting friends and relatives and education.”
