London Heathrow Airport has pushed back the reopening date of Terminal 3 due to continued uncertainty over travel restrictions imposed by the government.
Heathrow’s Terminal 3 was shut down in April 2020 after the global outbreak of the coronavirus. The terminal was previously announced to reopen on May 17. However, it has now been pushed to the end of May at the earliest.
“We are continuing to prepare for the restart of international travel and putting plans in place to scale up our operations and, in particular, restarting operations in Terminal 3,” said a Heathrow spokesperson.
“Without confirmation from the Government and continuous uncertainty around country categorisation, we now consider that the earliest Terminal 3 could reopen is 24 May.”
Virgin Atlantic and Delta were expected to be the first airline to resume flights in and out of T3. All airlines have been flying in and out of Terminal 2 and 5 following T3 and T4 amid the pandemic.
London Heathrow was dropped out of the top 30 busiest airports for the first time after only 91,400 passenger flights arrived at Heathrow last year.
