The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued Notams warning U.S. airlines flying over the Russian-Ukraine border.
The FAA warned the airlines to review the current threat and provide at least 72-hours advance notice of the scheduled flights over the airspace covering the Russian-Ukraine border.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy recently urged his citizens to vacation in Turkey after Russia’s travel ban, citing rising coronavirus infections.
The FAA mentioned that the regional tensions between the two nations could potentially result in no-notice cross-border conflict and increased military activities.
Operators are asked to exercise extreme caution while flying over Dnipro, Simferopol, Kyiv, Moscow and Rostov-na Donu Flight Information Regions.
Recently, Russia has moved thousands of troops on its eastern border with Ukraine and in Crimea. This is the largest massing of Russian combat troops since the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.
The Russian military has reportedly deployed two armies and three airborne formations on its western border. This has put the international community on high alert.
