A TUI Boeing 737 took off from Birmingham Airport more than a tonne heavier than declared as female passengers using the title “Miss” were classified as children.

The Boeing 737-800, with registration G-TAWG, was operating a flight from Birmingham Airport to Palma de Mallorca on July 21, 2020. A total of 187 passengers were on board.

The airline uses a standard weight of 35kg for children and a standard weight of 69kg for female adults.

As 38 females were checked in incorrectly as children, the plane had a takeoff weight that was 1.2 tonnes higher than declared.
