Travelling in the current climate is no easy feat for those looking to get a bit of summer sunshine in Europe. The COVID-19 pandemic means that all travellers will need a negative test before flying to most holiday destinations this summer, which can often be a stress-related period for holidaymakers.

A positive test will mean that plans will need to be altered, while a negative test means that you can board the plan and begin to look forward to the holiday that you have planned. For simplicity, many airports are now offering COVID-19 tests, which means that the testing can be done at the airport. But, which airports can you expect to find testing facilities?

Birmingham

Birmingham is a popular airport destination for those looking to have a getaway, and there are a number of testing options at the airport in the second city. There are walk-in PCR tests available, which will enable customers to get results in good time before departure.

Negative tests from these will see users given a ‘Fit to Fly’ badge via email. Also available at the airport are rapid antigen tests, but these should be taken no longer than four hours before flying. All tests should be booked in advance before turning up at the airport.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the busiest airport in Scotland, which means that it is a no brainer that they have set up a testing facility to help out those looking to get abroad. All tests must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment, and those getting tested must take along documentation.

The PCR testing facility can be found at a walk-up centre by the departures, and is open between 8 am and 6 pm. There is also a drive-in testing section, which is open between 10 am and 6 pm. Tests cost £99, and those with a negative result will be given a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate through their email address.

London Gatwick

Gatwick is one of the busiest airports in the United Kingdom throughout the summer, as millions flock to the airport for their summer sunshine. Unsurprisingly, there are a number of testing options at the airport. The most prominent option is the PCR test, which should be taken up to 96 hours before your departing flight. Bookings must be made in advance to secure your test. There are three other different testing options available at Gatwick, and these are LAMP, antibody and antigen.

Gatwick also makes it easier to return to the country, as they allow returning passengers to take the first of their two-day tests upon arrival back in the United Kingdom. The Express Test location can be found in the South Terminal airport between 10 am and 6 pm. Meanwhile, the Collinson Testing facility is on Copthorne Road, and is open between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. Boots also offers a testing option for passengers, but passengers will need to book this online.
