Iranian government Falcon aircraft is about to land in Geneva for ‘last-chance’ nuclear talks

GENEVA / TEHRAN — A Dassault Falcon 900EX (registration EP-IGC), carrying Iran’s top negotiating team, departed Tehran today at 15:50 local time, bound for Switzerland. The flight marks a critical moment in international diplomacy as Iranian officials prepare to meet their U.S. counterparts tomorrow for a third round of high-stakes negotiations aimed at de-escalating a nuclear standoff that has pushed the Middle East to the brink of war.

The 22-year-old business jet is carrying a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is scheduled to meet with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These talks, hosted in Geneva through Omani mediation, come under a tightening clock; U.S. President Donald Trump recently issued a “10 to 15-day” ultimatum for Tehran to reach a deal or face potential military strikes.

The Stakes in Geneva: A Region on the Precipice

The importance of tomorrow’s meeting cannot be overstated. Since the June 2025 conflict, during which the U.S. targeted Iranian nuclear infrastructure, tensions have remained at a fever pitch.

The primary goal is a new framework to replace the now-defunct 2015 agreement. The U.S. is demanding “zero enrichment,” while Iran is seeking a regional consortium that would recognize its right to peaceful nuclear energy in exchange for diluting its highly enriched uranium stockpile.

The talks are taking place “under the gun.” The U.S. has recently deployed a massive naval armada near the Iranian coast, including the USS Gerald R. Ford. Iranian military officials have responded by conducting “shore-to-sea” fire exercises and preparing air defenses for a possible conflict.

Inside Iran, the government is facing significant pressure from a wave of anti-regime protests following a violent crackdown on civil unrest in late 2025. The CIA offered help to potential informants in Iran on Tuesday, posting Farsi-language instructions on ways to safely contact the U.S. spy agency

A Fragile Path Forward

If tomorrow’s negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough, the window for diplomacy may close entirely, potentially leading to a “traumatic” military escalation that President Trump warned of earlier this month.

The aircraft has landed on runway 22 at 19:18 CET.
