The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has grounded it’s jet aircraft after the crew ejected from a Super Hornet late yesterday.
The jet was about 200m into it’s take off roll at RAAF Amberley at the time. A witness told media that smoke appeared to come from one of the engines before the pilots ejected.
The jet continued rolling after the ejection before veering off the runway and crashing with it’s nose on the ground. The RAAF have confirmed the crew are safe. An investigation into the incident is underway.
RAAF Super Hornets have seen service in the Middle East. They were introduced to ensure Australia’s air capability while awaiting the full introduction of the F-35.
