Flight operations are heavily disrupted over Greece due to problems with telephone communication.

Athens and Makedonia FIRs (LGGG & LGMD) experience problems with telephone communication and R/T frequencies.

Flight trackers show the Greek Flight Information Region (FIR) is largely empty, with many flights being diverted to neighboring countries like Italy, Turkey, and Cyprus.

A major technical failure in the radio frequency systems used by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), specifically at the Athens and Macedonia Area Control Centers.

Arrivals and departures at major airports, including Athens (Eleftherios Venizelos) and Thessaloniki, were suspended starting around 9:00 a.m. local time.

Aircraft already in the air are being forced to land “manually” (without standard automated communication aids) for safety.

Subsequently, Malta (LMMM) also restricts entries via various points due to a lack of radar information.

Eurocontrol says LG airspace has been zero-rated, further extended until 14:00 UTC.
